Amalia Anderson is a Guatemalan born Maya. She holds a B.A.with a
double major in Urban Studies and History from Macalester College and a
J.D. with a Social Justice concentration from Hamline University School of Law where she was active in the Chicano-Latino and the Inter-American Indigenous Law Student Associations.
Amalia has over 10 years of community organizing and community education experience with a specific focus on Teen Dating, Violence, Prevention, Human Rights Education, and Anti-Racism work. She is currently the Director of Political Education and Action with the League of Rural Voters. Amalia is also a field representative for the American Indian Treaty Council and co-founder of Fourth World Rising, a project to mentor young indigenous peoples and connect local struggles with the international indigenous movement. In August 2005, she co-led a Minnesota indigenous delegation to the 16th World Festival of Youth and Students in Caracas, Venezuela. She participated in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York City and the U.N. Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva, Switzerland. The Minnesota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2005 named her one of "25 on the Rise." |
