Alma de Mujer hosts up to 16 Texas-based Indigenous women and women of color artists for one-week periods between April and November of each year.

Description: The Artist in Residency (AIR) program at Alma de Mujer gives Texas-based indigenous women and women of color artists and writers the opportunity to create work in residency at the Alma de Mujer retreat center located on 22 acres of central Texas woodlands in North Austin. The week-long residencies provide one writer and one artist with studio and residency space. Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply including writers, visual artists, performers, multi-disciplinary artists and curators/critics. All artists receive shared accommodations, a private work space, and basic food provisions at no cost. Artists are responsible for transportation to and from the residency, materials, and additional food costs.

Application Deadline and Fee for 2009: Applications must be postmarked by midnight on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. An application fee of $20 (check/money order) must accompany your residency application. Artists will be notified of acceptance by March 8, 2009. All AIR applicants will be invited to participate in an Artists Gathering at Alma de Mujer the weekend of October 24-25, 2009. Because we believe it is important to support artists and to provide opportunities for networking, professional development and creative collaborations, we have planned this gathering as a way to keep artists connected to Alma and each other regardless of the outcome of their residency application.
